Hello,
my 2 cents :)
why don't create another modal transparent window with no borders (no close
button, etc), with a progress bar animation in the middle, that's is
displayed on top of the window you're trying to avoid the user to interact
with.
when you finish with your server side work, you just close it.
I imagine a class with another window handle (the one we want to "disable"
as param), you get the size from the param and apply it to your class.
