Hey woprandi, you're right - this is unwanted behavior (i.e. a bug). With the changes in the next release (no date yet) this will be gone because the drag & drop algorithm has been completely redesigned. Those changes currently "live" inside the "pointer" branch and will be merged into master at some point.
