That's the reason why there exists something like 'enhancement bug' ;)

No, serious now: If you think this 'feature' should become available at the
default framework API you should file a bugzilla entry for that.

But since there is a valid implementation rule for that 'feature' ("derive and
override") I don't think it will be implemented anywhere soon.
Deriving classes should be nothing to be afraid of :D

There is a risk of breaking working code, too. Like when some implementation
out there depends on a 'undefined' return value of 'getValueById'.
