Good that it works now. I'm currently trying to find out why the arts error
messages are not showing up properly in qpack under certain conditions. Which
matlab version are you using?

We are unfortunately forced to make a clear distinction between HITRAN 2008 and
2012. Before HITRAN2012, the species CO2-838 had the HITRAN ID 29. Since
HITRAN2012, CO2-838's ID was changed(!) to 20 and the new species CO2-727 took
over ID 29. Therefore, there is no safe way to determine the proper catalog
version just by the contents of the file. To avoid accidental use of the wrong
catalog version, we decided to ensure that the user makes a conscious decision
which catalog file is being read. Thus the strict filename requirement which
we've relaxed a bit now in arts-2-2-53. Instead of forcing the full name to be
HITRAN08.par or HITRAN2012.par, it only has to be prefixed with either HITRAN08
or HITRAN2012.

Hope this helps.

cheers,
Oliver
