qpopper login time

Hi,

I noticed that my log-in time for both sending and receiving mail seems to
be a little excessive.  I can ping my mail host fine and it responds to a
pings quite well, so my network connectivity is not the issue.  What are
some of the things I can look at to trim down the login time?
