unix netscape messenger don't delete mail from server

Does anyone know anything about this.
I run the netscape 4.5 messenger to test some mail function
of qpopper. But i find that even setting the option that
"delete mail from server when local copy is deleted" don't
have any effect, i.e. the mail on server still remains.
