Rampraprasad, If you connect locally (telnet servername.com pop3) do you get the same problem?

Check your configurations of ipchains:- ipchains --list If you see a line:- REJECT tcp -y---- anywhere anywhere any -> any Then that's why. However, don't remove the line altogether as you will be compromising your firewall. Instead just open access for the relevant ports (25 for pop, 110 for smtp).
