You will need to ensure that the mail server is available from the internet and the firewall if any allows packets in to port 110 from the internet. But remember that if your employees check there mail via pop3 from home then they will not get the same emails at work. It would be better to install a webbased email system eg neomail or similar on the mail machine. That way they can check their mail at home via the webmail system but collect it via pop3 (qpopper) at work.
