If you don't get a reply here, try on the openssl list, where there's likely
to be much more expertise with handling certs. But we'd be interested in
hearing any resolution you find.

Eudora ships with root certificates only for Verisign and Thawte. Since those are the same company, that's a real concern. Hopefully future versions will have a fuller set of root certs.


Outlook Expres uses the same certificate store as Internet Exporer, and has a much more complete set of root certificates.
