Hi all,

we're running a Sun Fire 280R with Solaris 9, sendmail, qpopper and
UW-imapd.
We recently applied the Sun Patch Cluster from August 26th.

Afterwards, we encountered serious problems concerning qpopper: Each
time a user tried to fetch mail from our server, the pop3 dialog
cancelled when submitting the user's password, and qpopper gave a PAM
error.

We could solve the problem by "switching back" to:
CRYPT_DEFAULT=__unix__
instead of:
CRYPT_DEFAULT=md5
in /etc/security/policy.conf

In addition, we had to delete and "recreate" Unix passwords for all
the users who have been created in the period since we've been using
md5 passwords.

Has anybody got a glue why qpopper does'nt work with md5 passwords
after having installed August's Patch Cluster?

'showrev' reveals the following:
Release: 5.9
Kernel architecture: sun4u
Application architecture: sparc
Hardware provider: Sun_Microsystems
Domain:
Kernel version: SunOS 5.9 Generic 117171-08 Jul 2004

We're running qpopper in version 4.0.5 (non-standalone) which was
built using the following configure options:
/configure \
--enable-shy \
--with-pam=other \
--with-openssl=/usr/local/ssl \
--enable-log-login \
--enable-specialauth

When using the UW ipop3d instead of qpopper, everything works fine.

If you need any further information, please feel free to contact me.

I'm very looking forward to getting any hints from you.

Thanks in advance,
Christian
