I'd recommend 4.1 unless you're really uncomfortable with a beta. 4.1 has IPv6 and other new features, a rewritten configuration file parsing, and better support for more versions of Unix.
Regardless of whether you run 4.1 or 4.0, I'd advice using the latest release of either.
