Surely it would be better do deny with a permanent error so that the 
sender knows immediately if there is a problem. The reason I say this is 
that legitimate emails were being blocked.

As I undertstand it, the suggestion is that I disable spamassassin, 
require_resolvable_host, rhsbl and dnsbl. In that case there don't seem 
to be many plugins left, so what functionality would qpsmtpd give me?
