Maybe there's something different about the Verizon checking, 
but I know it's been complained about on the NANOG list.  I 
can't find it right now because the NANOG archives seem to 
still be evolving toward functionality, as they have been for 
some weeks now (some sort of redesign going on).

True.  Significant complications probably aren't worth 
implementing if spammers have a easy way around the additional 
checks.

I also wonder how many servers actually allow such verification 
of addresses.  Are we seeing a move back toward rejecting mail 
at RCPT because of all the bounces from joe jobs with random 
FROM addresses?
