Speaking about that, what about SMTP AUTH? I absolutely need SMTP AUTH with authentication via vpopmail/vchkpw.
I'm actually trying to make some time this week to work on it. There were a couple of initial patches posted to the list a while ago (use the newsgroup interface to search for older messages). I'm going to try and make it a core module with plugable back end. You're in luck that I will probably implement a vpopmail interface for my own use.
Are there any statistics on how much mail can be easily (read: low CPU) detected as junk and refused at SMTP level, compared to a bare qmail setup?
I'm using two Cobalt RaQ3's (SLOW!) as my inbound MTA's and I block about 2/3 of the inbound traffic with very few false positives (plus I'm virus-scanning, too!).
