It's highly likely. We've certainly had more issues at MessageLabs (where we run our Spam scanner and Virus scanner under PPerl) with 5.8.0 than we ever had with 5.5.3. My guess is that this is related to safe signals, changes in taint code, and unicode work. But that's a rather wide brush :-)
