Did you try to manually copy a file into the spool directory and scan it from the disk? You can also give the clamav user a shell temporarily, so you can log in as that user with su. Then you can play around with the rights until you figure out what is going on.


It is possible that your O/S is set much less permissive than mine, so you will not be able to access that directory without altering the parent's rights too. If you can figure out what is going on, I can change the code accordingly.
