I think you are focusing on the wrong elements there. He was trying (and failing) to compare the two situations (when they aren't really). His larger argument that Cisco's IIM was merged with DomainKeys (just like SenderID was able to do with SPF) and yet doesn't significantly improve DomainKeys (AIUI).

The only difference is that implementors, proposers and standardisers
alike have all agreed to go ahead with DKIM, since it appears more likely
to be standardisable.

That's great. Have you seen any DKIM signatures on messages in the wild? Have you seen DomainKeys signatures? Which way should we go *today*, not 3 years from now when the IETF process finally grinds to a [probably foregone] conclusion?
