"assemble" ist the wrong word here, because very often no assembly
would be needed at all. E.g. when writing to a queue file, it will
just print the leadiing text, then the message, then the trailing
text. No copying, no modification, nothing. Should not have any
impact at all to performance or memory usage. In my opionion would
this be the superiour solution for the problem.
