Yes, but the detainting is fairly specific to what kind of data the plugin expects, so any utility method would have to accept a regex, at which point it isn't a whole lot more compact than what Peter suggested. I've been yelled at before for suggesting a generic detaint regex (though I can't for the life of me remember in what context)... ;-)
