Oh, I know it's deliberate and I would have never asked for anything
else. It's just sadly unintuitive. Which leads to:

It'd be really great if this information made itself more obvious in
an intuitive fashion (perhaps an error message on plugin load
failure?). The documentation for this is a little bit obscure; sure,
it's not hard to find it if you know what you're looking for, but when
your only hint is "plugin won't load", you're basically hoping that
your Google search brings up an archive for a mailing-list thread like
this one.
