You make this sound as if it was new and a chance in mindset and imply that there weren't any significant "outside" contributions so far. This is simply not true. By now, 80 people contributed over 400 patches, including complete plugins that would never have been done "internally". The only difference is that the result of 'make docs' is now linked from the website and doesn't sit on your local harddisk only.
