I had a play with this tonight with both the linux and OSX versions.
It's a nice addition!
I know this is a snapshot release so you're probably way ahead of me
but I have some general observations:
1) The icons look really great on Ubuntu but the OSX versions need work.
2) Per the OP's question, it would be nice to have an option to turn
these filters off (for whatever reason - say someone spent hours
creating Header and Source .pri files :p ).
3) Slightly off topic, but an option to hide .pri files from the
project tree would be great - Qt does a good job of adding/removing
files from the directories once they are included in the .pro so there
is little to be gained from having the .pri files there and it
clutters the space.
4) Ability to rename files in the tree. Pretty please? :D
5) Ability to change the order of items and/or list items by the order
in which they appear in the .pro/.pri files. This is something I
appreciate in XCode and a pet peeve of mine in MSVC (which orders
everything alphabetically).
6) Ability to select multiple items for deletion etc.
6) Deleting a item should offer to move it to the trash/recycle bin;
the IDE should never delete items outright.
Creator keeps getting better! It's fun to find these new things :)

Uncheck the filter item in the menu?
Sounds like a neat feature. But no substitute for real project
hierarchies...
