Using the msvc compiler is easier and more likely to succeed.

Currently the mingw & qt 4.7 combination is messy, since I don't use windows 
much, I can only give you information based on hearsay, which is:
Apparently some people can compile Qt 4.7 with mingw gcc 4.4, whereas for 
others it crashes in random places. Some report that gcc 4.5 is better and 
doesn't crash. It's still unclear whether we'll have qt 4.7 beta binary 
packages for mingw. If so you could try waiting until then and use those.

BTW, I'd be in favour of accepting such a patch, it's a hack, but not 
intrusive and very much localized to one place. Though I don't maintain that 
code.
