To be honest, it's hard to be positive about the outlook for Qt Jambi,
despite Ray Martin's upbeat assessment from a couple of weeks back.

Trolltech/Nokia obviously don't see a commercial future in it, and I
don't think it'll be a good fit for the open source community. It's
technically very challenging, and requires excellent knowledge of Qt and
low level Java trickery. If the Trolltech guys don't see it as being
worth the effort, what hope is there that volunteers will see reason to
climb an almighty learning curve?

From what Gunnar said, it seems that after a year of trying,
technically aware people like those at Debian and Mandriva can't even
distribute it correctly. With that in mind I doubt there's going to be a
whole lot of effective support out there when the Trolls move onto other
projects.

I think it's a crying shame, really. I also like Java and Qt, and
couldn't possibly go back to something as crappy as Swing. But unless a
benefactor comes along who sees reason to support the project, I've a
feeling Qt Jambi will disappear from the landscape pretty quickly. So
no, IMHO don't start a new project with it. You'll be setting yourself
up with a porting effort to do fairly soon.
