GPL and LGPL are distribution licenses. Therefore, there is only a violation if things that are compiled, loaded, or linked together in any form (including the use of jar files) of non-compatible licenses are distributed together. Thus, you can have ant-contrib even available from the same location as the main QtJambi code, just not in the same distributable package. Please understand the main issue here is actually not with the Apache license for ant-contrib it is with the GPL/LGPL for QtJambi. An appropriate version of GPL(2+/3)/LGPL(?) can avoid these problems altogether with Apache 2 licensed software or an exception can always be specified by the original copyright holders to allow previous Apache license software to be combined and distributed together. I agree that these discussions about licenses get out of hand, having firsthand experience on other projects. It is very easy to misinterpret their meaning and actual application. It is best to stick to the demonstrable facts and steer away from opinions.
