Welbon,
I can address some of this since I am familiar with
computers
and the new lexicon.
1) If you could be more specific about the problem
that Quackle kept on encountering,
then maybe we could help you
better. What were the signs? Error messages?
Alerts? warnings? What did you
see or hear that indicated to you that Quackle was
not behaving as you expected?
Did it finish installing? Did it run at all? Did you
see the board open up as similar to
the screen shots?
I was able to play a game against
Quackle on Windows XP. I didn't understand
if your home computer that you
transferred the files to has Windows XP, so if it
doesn't then maybe that is involved in
the problem.
2) The lexicon for North American Scrabble was
updated since March 1, 2006.
In Quackle this is what you get
if you select the TWL06 option for the lexicon.
On the opening screen I see 3
tabs labeled "History", "Choices", and "Settings" - the lexicon
choice is under
"Settings".
The dictionary changes are
described at http://www.scrabble-assoc.com/boards/dictionary/ospd4-changes.html -
down the page it lists all the
new words of length 2-9.
In bookstores since fall 2005,
there has been the Official Scrabble Players Dictionary, 4th Edition, with a
red
cover, containing definitions
for most of the words.
My question is - the current state of the
simulation opponent. Does it simulate better/
the same/ worse than/ buggier than
the Maven bootleg that I probably
have? Kevin Leeds
