It's actually relative to the binary's current directory, not the directory 
the binary is in.  So, for example, since I'm often running quackle from 
the command-line after doing a build, I simply run the command-line...

release\quackle

from the quacker directory, and that works fine because the current 
directory is c:\quackle\quacker, not c:\quackle\quacker\release.  You could 
also make a shortcut to the release binary which sets the current 
directory...both slightly better options than having to copy it every time.

At some point, I'll probably improve the data directory-finding logic, but 
it's not a high priority since we now have a real installer that we'll 
deliver in the next beta.

In any case, it's good to hear that somebody else was able to build under 
Windows.  Hope my instructions in the readme were helpful to that end.
