Ben,

I'm sorry to hear that Quackle isn't working for you, but I don't have a solution right now. If you bring the laptop to ArdenCup, John Fultz or I might be able to take a look at it. The problems we've had in Windows are very frustrating. They're generally caused by Qt/Windows bugs that we haven't yet found workarounds for. Very difficult to debug problems that we can't replicate ourselves.  If we had Fujitsu p-2110's of our own to test on, it would be a different story, but in a perfect world we wouldn't need to. The whole point of a toolkit like Qt is that you write code once and it runs everywhere, but that hasn't been our experience.

I posted the following note last week to quackle, and then to cgp and ospd and didn't receive a single response, which is quite unusual—the other few times I've had technical questions, I've received several responses.  Anyway, I'm trying again:

I just bought an ultraportable laptop, a 2002-03 vintage Fujitsu p-2110,
with an XP-Pro OS.  I installed Office applications without difficulty and
they work fine.  Internet Explorer and wireless connection to my desktop
router work fine.  I installed and ran LeXpert without difficulty.

Download and installation of Quackle and Zyzzyva seemed to go smoothly, but
when I double click the icon for either, I quickly get a dialogue box with
the ubiquitous  "??????? has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We
are sorry for the inconvenience." error message.  Is this a known problem?

Is there a setting I need to change or something else I need to do so that I

can run these programs?  I know that others successfully run these apps on
XP-Pro.  Since I bought it used, I wondered if the previous owner might have
made some setting change which could cause this problem.

I'd appreciate any help on this-especially since the primary reason I bought

this computer was to have something small and light I could toss in my
Scrabble bag, but still run Quackle, Zyzzyva, and LeXpert, surf the web, and
do email.

Thanks,

Ben Withers
