Greetings,

Just joined the list, mainly because I wanted to get
an explanation of the discrepancies between Quackle
and Maven in the SOWPODS position below.

Players: Andrew Fisher (score 401), Russell Honeybun
(score 271)

Andrew Fisher to play with LAWNIER

After a few hundred 3-ply sims, Quackle (0.92) likes
OWLIER then ZANIER (minus 19) then ZAIRE (minus a
further 18), WORE (minus 4), WON (minus 5) and then
CLAW (minus 5). Maven has WORE top by 15 over CLAW,
then WON (minus 3), ZAIRE (minus 1) and NEWEL (minus
6). No mention of OWLIER or ZANIER even after they
were added to the sim.

WORE makes sense to me in retrospect, because it
blocks eights using Z and O without offering an
S-hook. My actual play was CLAW, hoping for a bingo
comeback if Russell bingoed (albeit not worrying too
much, with the win under my belt).

I have probably missed discussion about Quackle's
endgame capabilities, but would be interested to find
what the best play really is. CLAW is about 50 points
worse than OWLIER according to Quackle.

On another topic, an opening rack of AEEINOT generated
mainly five- and six-letter suggestions when probably
a very short play or a change is best. Maven is also
bad at these assessments.

Andrew
