That error message makes me think you have not installed all the -dev RPMS, even though you have qmake. Another thing to check is which version of qmake you're using - Debian allows both the be installed simultaneously, and qmake on my system was a symlink to qmake-qt3. The package is complete and functional, but I've yet to find a sponsor to put it in the Debian archives; I'm going to send out another request next week. I've made available my packaging work and i386 packages for Debian unstable (sid) [1]. There are two patches from my packaging you might be interested in adapting. The first [2] moves the 'data' directory to /usr/share, and the second [3] removes the dependency on the QtDebug library.
