Hi, Stu. Yes, I can explain. The opponent averages four more points against GAP than against PIG (I should have tried GIP instead, but I'm sure the results would be about the same). This is because GAP takes two hooks that PIG doesn't, and the A also makes GAP more overlap-prone than PIG. You score more on your second turn after GAP than after PIG, backing the claim that IEST is a better leave, but you don't score enough to offset the bad defense of GAP. By the way, if you take the AEGIPST rack and simulate exchange AGP versus exchange IGP, you'll find the IEST leave wins that simulation.
