Howdy Smurf,
I admire your drive for independence. Believe me, I really do.
Sometimes we can help other people by letting them play Santa, and reap
the fruits they selflessly work for. In their mind it may be a help up,
not a hand out. It can make them feel like they too can make a
difference. Regardless of our physical abilities, most people share a
bit of emptyness in their lives. The ways of dealing with the emptyness
is to try to fill it with something, trying to make the world a better
place can be the most thankless way to do it if one seeks recognition,
but the personal feelings can be more rewarding than a parade or having
a street named after you.
I'll admit that outright charity can be a hard pill to swallow...
sometimes... a life saving necessity at other times.
It would seem this is an opportunity which isn't a handout at all. You
will even be involved.
All I can say is good luck and go for it. Life is to short for sweating
the little things.

Hey Stuntman,

How are you?  Thanks for what you said, it's help to put things into perspective...
