Christopher Reeve accomplished more in the last nine years than most people do in a lifetime, despite unreal suffering and overwhelming odds. He authored books, directed and acted in movies, and worked relentlessly as a speaker and advocate. In his situation, despite the money and fame, I would have withered away. His spirit seemed indomitable, and it pains me to hear other quads question his motives and criticize his outspokeness.
He was a true hero to me and millions of others. I thank God for Christopher Reeve and I thank God that he did not go gentle into that good night. He raged against the dying of the light until the very end. Perhaps he did not make a "declaration of faith," but if anyone deserves to be sitting -- No, make that standing! -- at the right hand of God today, it is Christopher Reeve. I thank god for his life and undying spirit. This world and my heart both have a huge empty space today at the loss of our leader -- free at last.
