Hello everyone,
I was 17 she was 18 when we met through some mutual
friends. I was a truck driver, she was going to normal school to become a
teacher. A friend of mine had arranged a date between 3 of us boys and a
girlfriend of his and two of her friends to grow to a small country dance.
That was when I first met Sylvia. I wasn't much of a dancer but I was very
comfortable dancing with Sylvia and before the night was over I had made a date
with her for the following Wednesday night to go to a movie.
When I got home that night after the dance and went
to sleep I'd dreamed that Sylvia and I got married. I made the mistake of
telling the other fellow's that I was batching with about my dream and of course
they never let me live it down. They even telephoned the girls that we
were with and told them about the dream. So I took a lot of ribbing from
both the boys and girls.
However, on July 11, 1959 just two short years
after Sylvia and I met we got married, had three fine boys and we are
still married after 45 going on 46 years. We went through some good times
and through some hard times. We had a hard time when we almost lost our
oldest son to the croup when he was nine months old and I almost lost Sylvia at
the same time due to a bad miscarriage.
We went through another hard time when I had to
have open-heart surgery when I was only 23 and almost didn't survive it.
However I did survive and we had two more fine sons. I had the heart
surgery in 1982 which improved my health and we had many more good times until a
car coming towards me on the highway lost control and I crashed into the side of
it and broke my neck at the C 4 level.
I am ever so grateful for the love of my life,
"Sylvia", and my loving family without whom I would never been able to survive
these past 22 years.
So much more could be said!
Gale :-)
