College Essay Kathryn Whitten -A person who has had a profound New Visions Health Impact on my life
Throughout life we come across a variety of individuals. It is through these encounters with an assortment of different individuals that we learn to shape our own individuality. Sometimes we find ourselves especially effected by a special someone in our lives. My special someone is my Aunt Bobbie. As long as I can remember my Aunt Bobbie and I have had a special connection. She became a quadriplegic at age seventeen and I truly believe that growing up around her gave me a better understanding of the world that the disabled live in. She taught me to be sympathetic and realize that someone being different doesnât make them strange or scary, but just that they add a different dimension to the world we live in. My Aunt Bobbie believes in me more than anyone else in my life. In everything that I have ever pursued she has become completely absorbed. In a way, I sometimes wonder if she is trying to live through me. However I realize that because she missed out on so many experiences she just doesnât want me to take any of them for granted. When I wanted to quit the violin after fifth grade sheâs the one who refused to let me give up and convinced me that I would get better. I am so thankful that she did that because I did improve and learned to love playing the violin. I wouldâve missed out on so many good experiences if I had quit. Sheâs also the one whoâs pushed me in my writing. When I wanted to give up, she was the one who pushed me to finish the final chapters and has since been trying to get me to publish my work. I believe my Aunt Bobbie is the one who has given me the best compliment of my life. She told me that I was her inspiration in her own writing. It was just amazing to think that I had an influence over a woman 30 years my senior. She just gives me confidence in everything I do. When I visit her, people in her apartment complex know things about me and it takes me a second to figure out that itâs because she talks about me so much. I guess my Aunt Bobbie has had such an impact on my life because she loves me so much and I love everything about her in return. Sheâs made me a more compassionate person and has given me a sense of confidence and pride in everything that I do. |
