Hi Jim,
This is my point. There are embryonic cells that are being destroyed now, and more are being made and frozen as I write this. They will never all be "donated" to other couples, those couples what their own, and theirs will be added to the cells already frozen. If saying that these cells are being destroyed now, which they are, without looking at other options, sounds to you like the medical experiments performed on the Jews by the Nazis', then why does our government continue to license the IVF clinics? Why are the voices expressing outrage at cell "research" not speaking out against IVF clinics "freezing" cells? How can the Science that helps infertile couples have children be called good, if the same Science when used to do "research" is called bad?

NOTICE OF CRITERIA FOR FEDERAL FUNDING OF RESEARCH ON EXISTING HUMAN EMBRYONIC STEM CELLS AND ESTABLISHMENT OF NIH HUMAN EMBRYONIC STEM CELL REGISTRY
Release Date: November 7, 2001
NOTICE: NOT-OD-02-005
Office of the Director, NIH
On August 9, 2001, at 9:00 p.m. EDT, the President announced his decision to allow Federal funds to be used for research on existing human embryonic stem cell lines as long as prior to his announcement (1) the derivation process (which commences with the removal of the inner cell mass from the blastocyst) had already been initiated and (2) the embryo from which the stem cell line was derived no longer had the possibility of development as a human being.

This is what is happening NOW! I just did a Google search on, "U.S. In vitro fertilization clinics," and got 73,400 hits. How does one put the genie back in the bottle? All I can do is raise my voice and ask hard questions, and vote my conscience, but to deny the Science is happening right now, would be naive on my part!
With Love,

I'm just saying that frozen embryos from an IVF clinic should be treated with respect. If I "owned" frozen embryos, I would rather see some good come from them than knowing they were just destroyed. IMHO
I totally agree with you (I've been a bit blonde lately! hehe) Embryos are to precious to let go to waste!
Then shouldn't they be donated to other couple to use for IVF? They get destroyed in the therapeutic cloning process, that is the whole reason for the controversy of using them.
If you think human embryos are precious and should be treated with respect then why is everyone so eager to destroy them in experiments to create stem cells? I just don't understand the reasoning that "they will be destroyed anyway" so they might as well be experimented on for the "greater good". To me that sounds lik! e the reasoning the Nazis used when conducting medical experiments on the Jews they were going to kill anyway.
I'm just curious, those of you who do favor embryonic stem cell research right now, when do YOU feel a human life begins? The frozen embryos has the same 46 chromosomes as a human fetus. When a nervous system is detected? When a heart has developed? Some women say they can tell the instant they become pregnant, which would be before the embryo reaches the blastocyst stage, 5 to 7 days into development. Have you even thought about it?
