Silas, Living in northern Minnesota and working outside through all types of whether I have learned how to help myself tolerate the cold weather. I might not be the best one to give you advice on staying warm because unlike most on the Quad list, I prefer it cooler than warmer. The first thing I do is to climatieze myself to the cooler weather. No matter how I feel, I keep the temperature in my house no warmer than it was before my accident and I dress no differently than I did before no matter how I feel. It's all mind over matter to me. One of the most important things you have to do to stay warm is to prevent the wind from penetrating your clothing. I do not dress for fashion but for function. I wear sweatpants year-long and different types or shirts depending on the temperature. In the winter time I will wear a heavy sweatshirt for warm and on top of that I wear a fleece jacket that has a breathable, windproof and moisture proof barrier in the fabric. My wife bought this jacket for me from Landsend catalog. This jacket is light weight and it is not bulky at all. I also had my sisters make me a custom blanket to wrap around my leg's from the same material as my jacket. When the temperature is get extremely cold I put a heavy blanket around my legs and then put my custom blanket on top of that to hold everything in place. Also, I try not to let myself get to cold because I have adverse effects from it. I hope this helps. |
