Tapping or thumping one's bladder to empty using a condom cath is definitely not for everyone. As the bladder fills and you have the feeling to void, some make a fist and thump the bladder to void. The urine in the bladder is then forces the sphincter muscle to (smile) or open, allowing the urine to flow from the penis into the condom cath. This procedure can only be done by 10% of the quad-population and doctors think that everyone should at least try to reduce UTI's. Once you realize that you are the 90%, you have to tap the bladder with cath tube or have an indwelling cath. W
