They use a piece of small intestine (from the ilium section) about 8 inches long.  The ureters from the kidneys are connected to it.  One end is folded back and sewn to the abdomen just to the right of and slightly below the navel.  The surgery is called an ileo-conduit.  I've had one for 36 years.
