I will try to find out how his surgery went and let everyone know. Ironically a quadriplegic, who was my roommate in the ventilator room during my initial rehabilitation, was one of the first people to receive this procedure. He had the surgery performed over eight years ago and he passed away six years ago. His death, however, had nothing to do with the pacemaker. It was a truly sad and tragically barbaric reason that he died. His family took him home, but did not turn him and left him in bed for the majority of the time. Needless to say, he ultimately developed multiple pressure ulcers and ended up dying much like Christopher Reed. I was extraordinarily aggravated and wondered why the State did not press charges.

Hi Billy,

I hope the surgery went well for Phil, and he is able to breathe on his own.  Even the twenty hours a day like Chris Reeve was doing will be better for him than it is now.

There is nothing better than to be able to breathe on your own!  IMHO
