Title: Re: [QUAD-L] BSCIP / Steph's Situation
You and only you can decide what is best for you and you are happy where you are then great.  However, I'm with Houston.  I will do whatever I can within my power to help you if you want.  Florida is a pain in the butt state no doubt but I can at least try.  My state reps know who I am well and so will yours if need be.

I got tired of getting ripped off in the nursing home. It was harder 2 control whos in & out of your room in the nursing home more people 2 keep track off. Dont get me wrong I have a few friends here that you couldn hes the Mayor, President of Resident Counsel, several other titles. Likes the variety of nurses & aides 2 look at :) 2 each his or her own as long as yore happy. & nursing homes do serve a purpose and are pretty good in some situations. Can be very good with the right people pushin  and someone in right mind state keeping staff in line :) Stephanie Im not in Fla. But if you decide in the future that you want to try 2 get back out let me know. Ill do whatever research I can on Fla. Medicaid & Medicare & other services 2 try 2 assist you in getting out.

To try to answer all your questions ... I am in Florida just outside of Jacksonville. As to BSCIP guess this is just another area where I will fall through the cracks - I contracted Transverse Myelitis at 18 years old in Sept 1986 - I am not a Spinal Cord Injury therefore have been told that I don't "qualify" for such programs. As for Medicaid waiver list I was on that TWO years before coming to the nursing home. Truthfully, guys and gals, I'm tired of trying of doing my damndest, jumping through bureaucratic hoops,  to get some living quarters only to go through the rigamarole of finding trustworthy aides without being ripped off, abused and taken advantage of (and, yes, it will happen despite best taken precautions) in the process. Yeah, I miss the perks of living "out there" but there's a whole lot more I don't miss. Maybe I'm just a wuss or maybe I'm just wising up, but whichever I am I doubt even if I were willing to try anymore could I find a program to help me.

Don't judge me too harshly I've been where you are - independent, participating in society, but the knocks kept coming and one day I'd had enough, so I came here and you know what? I'm okay, my life still goes on.
