Dear Family, Friends, and Supporters,
I entered the Sit
Tall Stand Tall Program on February 1st, 2005. I have made some
huge improvements in my body strength and physical condition. When I
entered the program I only had my new manual wheelchair for two
weeks. I only used it two
days before entering the program because I had no strength to use it.
Thanks to Howie, Jeff and the staff of Suncoast Pharmaceuticals and the
South Florida Quickie regional representative I am on the road to
independence. I donated my brand new electric wheelchair back to a
gentleman in the south Florida area who was in a program that
provides assistance to others from the community to gain their
independence. Since my community has been so good to me and supports me in
my efforts, I felt compelled to give back to others I could assist.
The Sit Tall
Stand Tall Program is not for everyone! This program shows you proper
technique and strength building principles which leads you to your goals.
This is a program that demands you to be extremely disciplined while at
the program and even after you return home for the night. When I entered
the program two weeks ago, I could move my wheelchair approx. 5 ft. I now
move it everywhere I go. I do a minimum of 20 laps a day in the Sit Tall
Stand Tall Program along with various other strength building techniques.
I am able to lift a weight training long bar strapped to my hands up in
front of me at a right angle and return the bar to my lap with full
control. I see the muscles in my upper body developing and returning from
a state of atrophy to a state of definition. This is exciting to me! I am
now taking this same bar and performing side to side exercises which is
building my oblique muscles. This is giving me upper trunk control which
is my total focus of these past few weeks. I am gaining stomach muscles
which I was told would be impossible for a quadriplegic to obtain. Mr.
Leighton Weber is proving that the guidelines given to the medical
community about the abilities of a paraplegics and quadriplegics are
inaccurate. To fight for independence is not easy and demanding. I choose
to free myself from the electric wheelchair. I am fighting to strength
train and push my own way in a manual wheelchair. I know some have asked
how I can give up the best electric wheelchair that was on the market for
a manual wheelchair. The answer is simple. I am fighting for my own
independence! I do not want sympathy for the rest of my life. I have made
a choice not to accept the limitations that were told to me and my family
but to find an alternative to these limitations. I am working to build my
body and strength train with the best personal coach in my opinion for
paraplegic and quadriplegics, Mr. Leighton Weber. I also receive the
greatest support from other like minded individuals, my fellow Warriors.
Together we are doing the impossible told to us from the medical
community!
My
goals:
1) I have lost 13
lbs from a proper diet. I must loose another 12lbs. I am looking to
decrease my stored fat while maintaining and building muscle mass. I am
eating a high protein, high fiber diet with some select carbohydrates to
help me perform well in the gym. I am staying away from sugar and caffeine
altogether.
2) Build my upper body strength
further in order to move my manual chair with
ease.
3) To stand on my
own in a standing frame without blood pressure issues. I will build
strength and endurance while doing so.
These are my
short range goals in light of my long term goals of gaining independence
and learning to walk again. There is no reason to doubt my progress. All
you have to do is watch my video updates as I document my progress and see
for yourself.
I want to take
this moment to thank each and every one of you again for the support and
prayers while I am on this journey. I made a personal decision to use my
website as a medium to keep all informed on my progress. This is the best
way for me to communicate with all of you and not forget anyone person.
Please take a moment if you have not yet done so and sign up for my emails
