Mark,

I have a nephew who is on a feeding tube (though he can eat by mouth, he just loses some of his meds), he cannot talk or otherwise accurately express himself, and would not be able to express his wishes on this issue.  He's been this way since 1 yr old.  Currently, his mother provides much of his care, as she has for the past 25 years.  Some day she may not be around and someone else (the state, perhaps?) will be his guardian.

If DeLay's plan goes through... and this proposed, bipartisan bill in both houses makes it to the President's desk... what's his future?

The definition of being "incapacitated" is being changed.  If anything, ALL of us should be afraid of "What's next" ... and after that.

Hitler's gas chambers were originally built for "defectives" like us as a means for experimentation and cleansing defects from the population so they wouldn't consume too much resources.  Considering our power chairs can cost as much as cars, do you think government and/or insurances corporations might consider cleansing themselves of other defectives?  Legislatively changing the definition of "incapacitated" a few times can lead to us fitting that description.

Think Happy Thoughts!

Best!
Tod
