I submitted my letter via the Medicare Rights Center and guess , with others, it made a difference for MediCAID cuts
WE DID IT!
March 21, 2005
The Smith-Bingaman amendment passed on the Senate floor on Thursday 52 to 48!
The amendment, sponsored by Senator Gordon Smith, Republican of Oregon, and Senator Jeff Bingaman, Democrat of New Mexico, struck the Medicaid budget cuts in the original Senate Budget Resolution and created a one-year commission to study and recommend changes to Medicaid.
The bipartisan support for this amendment sends a strong message to the Administration that Americans will not haphazardly cut health care services for 53 million Americans and endanger the financial stability of state and local governments and health care providers.
So, what happens next? The House and Senate negotiators will meet next month to hammer out a single budget proposal. Keep visiting the MRC Action Network to stay up-to-date on what you can do to save Medicaid.
Thank you to everyone who called, emailed and wrote their Senator to support the Smith-Bingaman Amendment to the Senate Budget Resolution. Your voice was heard.
Sincerely,
The Medicare Rights Center |
