The Schiavo case is an opportunity to discuss the disease of Bulemia
and Anorexia. In my opinion the media has missed an opportunity to
educate young adults about the dangers of eating disorders, as well as
the pervasive attitude that "picture perfect" bodies are the ideal.
Terri did this to herself because she had an undiagnosed disease, her
Dr. was actually sued for not diagnosing it soon enough. Her potassium
levels were dangerously low, a sign of an eating disorder. More health
care professionals need to understand the warning signs of eating
disorders.
