Hi Ron,
Welcome to the group! I'm Smurf (real name Sarah) and I'm 21 from the
UK. I've been a paraplegic for just over 3 years now after a combination
of getting hit by a speeding car and a fall. I also have a neurological
condition called RSD, and a joint condition called HMS which complicates my
situation.
Anyway I'm sure we will chat in the near future!
Take care,
Love Smurf xxx

Hi guys,
My name is Ron I am a c7 quad, 7 years post. For the past 1.5 years I
have dealt with abdominal pain, back pain, pain in arms, weakness and other
various symptoms.A syrinx was found at my injury site which measures
2.6cm by the width of cord. Ive had four opinions from neurosurgeons. Three of
them here in St. Louis, and one in Colorodo at craig hospital. Two of the
three surgeons in st. louis say dont get surgery yet because no real loss of
function yet. One surgeon in St. Louis agrees to do surgery and is covered by
my insurance United Healhcare, the man says this is a simple surgery and has
done harder things, but I think he has little experience with paralyzed
individuals. He gave me 50-50 on pain, with a 10% risk of paralyzing me worse.
He did say things should go well surgery would take about two hours then a
couple day stay in hospital. The fourth surgeon which was in Colorodo was Dr.
Scott Falci, this man by far has the most experience of all of them. I have
confidence in him but hes two states away and doesn't take my insurance United
Healthcare. I do have a chance to get my workers comp insurance and medicare
to pick up some of the 50,000 cost but i would have to front some of my own
money. Plus Im afraid to go out of state because if I have a complication Im
sure the docs here in St. Louis wont want to touch me. Again Im not losing
function but Im in pain everyday and this is depressing me to no end. Im on
elavil at night, and a couple 1mg lorezapams in the day to deal with this. Im
28 and feel I have many good years left and dont want to be in pain if there
is a surgical option. Would appreciate if you guys could help me talk about
this crazy decision im going to have to make. Thank you so much.
