That's a huge surgery and I've had one too many "near death" scenarios with numerous Drs and surgeons. My spinal cord manipulation to have a shunt put in for my syringomyelia nearly killed me in 1995. Cutting into the bowel is the 2nd most serious and risky (spinal cord being number one).
My brother-in-law had a bowel lesion removed recently and the surgeon must have missed a stitch. He's been hospitalized twice SEVERELY sick with an infection since the operation. He was fine before they fiddled in there.
I hear so many horror stories of Dr & surgeon negligence & malpractice that I'm staying away from them as much as possible. If it were my LAST RESORT ... possibly. But not there yet.

UTI's are difficult to completely get rid of even for "normal" people. With an indwelling catheter its a never ending fight. And wounds? OMG!, I'd be completely suicidal. OK, I get wounds too. but I need to get in my chair if only for a few hours. That bed is the bane of my existence. I'm not real religious, but you're sure in my prayers.
