It must a regional thing, Eric. All devices termed as elevators must be inspected and tag each year. I don't know how you were able to circumvent that in your area. Porch inspections, in Chicago, were a gloss over inspection for decades until a major incident last year when a porch came down with several college graduates being injured and dying. Since then, Chicago has be very tough. Porch Lifts have always been exempt from inspection. W
