I have a Service Dog and I write off all expenses under Medical Other.  According to my Tax Attorney this is allowable because the dog is acting as durable medical "equipment" and the upkeep is not covered by insurance.  Therefore the expenses involved are tax deductible.

I'd sure try to put the dog down as an expense for work or education. If you are working, he's a necessity.
