AZ has some "good" programs for those with little money? I think even the ALTCH (close enough to the acronym for AZ Long Term Care...) is having problems getting aides for people. Julie is here in Tucson & has had trouble for awhile and she's been on the program for YEARS. That's Tucson and Julie best answer that.
My problem, Greg, since moving to AZ is that most all other states have 6-7 Medicare Supplements for BOTH the disabled and aged folks on Medicare. AZ has ONE for DISABLED FOLKS like us. More for those 65+ but not the disabled.
I was in NY when I chose my first supplemental (one of 7) . It was via Mutual of Omaha. I could (and did) transfer it to here but the premiums went UP & UP & UP & UP (as they KNEW I had no choice being in AZ). I eventually had to drop them.
Sooooooooooo, I'll be needing a new chair anytime now plus other things where I NEED to get a supplemental. So we're looking to move for that and other reasons (housing).
ANYWAY ... WHAT FOUR supplementals are you referring to Greg? The ONE we know of for DISABLED ONLY on Medicare pays squat for anything (forgot the name at he moment).
Further, my home care agency has been going through aides like a sieve. They HATE to put out anyway. I THOUGHT I had a good one start 3 weeks ago (their only one) but she called in twice last week and THREE times this week! I just got off the phone with the agency coordinator trying to push me off onto another agency since they can't/won't keep quality aides.
PROBLEM: NO MediCARE agencies want quads who need aides. I've tried calling at least 30 myself.
This is what Stephanie is referring to and why, unfortunately, she's in a nursing home. :-(

PS - Hope you got my other emails on all the WORSE problems coming to Medicare just down the road :-(

I will be losing my insurance pretty soon, it's a state high risk insurance
and I no longer am there. I get Medicare in Aug. AZ dose not have a "high
risk insurance" for those with a pre-injury. 30 states do, but not AZ. The
state and my city seem to have some good programs if you have no money.
That's great, but it's no help for me. They should learn that a little help
now could save a lot later. They basically are encouraging my to spend all
my money so I can get service.
I'm willing to buy insurance, I pay $550 a month now. I must admit, my
insurance has been great, they bought me a ceiling lift, new chairs,
including a top-line Permobil, but I loose it soon. I will have to get by on
Medicare and what ever the supplemental covers. I worry it wont cover
enough. It will save me lots of money not having to buy my insurance. What
really sucks is I could have had that and the SS disability 5 years ago, but
just found out about it last year.
